COMMUNITY PREPAREDNESS

The Community Preparedness Action Group seeks to educate and inspire the citizens of Bainbridge Island to take a community approach to emergency preparedness due to potential Y2K problems and other natural disasters. We believe this can be done most effectively when individual households join together to form small neighborhood groups. We support the Kitsap County Department of Emergency Management program which also educates and organizes Neighborhood Response Teams.

Bainbridge Island Resilient Community Network currently offers support to neighborhood groups through available written resources, access to Kitsap County workbooks, leadership training, web site, and Speakers Bureau. We are committed to doing what we can to ensure these small group formations. Experience shows that after earthquakes your most reliable source of help will be your neighbors. In the immediate aftermath of any crisis, advance preparation will substantially increase your ability to respond quickly and effectively. We believe that organized neighborhoods not only help our entire community prepare for disasters, but create stronger, more caring communities as well.

If you are interested in starting a neighborhood group and need guidance, please contact Bainbridge Island Resilient Community Network at 842-9582 or 842-7686 for information on Neighborhood Response Teams.
