The incarceration was the result of Executive order 9066 and specifically of Civilian Exclusion Order No.1, dated March 24, 1942 and was in clear violation of the United States' Bill of Rights. Bainbridge Islanders were the first group in the nation to be forcibly removed from their homes under these orders, which were based simply on fear and prejudice.
