On March 30, 1942 two hundred twenty-seven men, women and children of Bainbridge Island, Washington boarded a ferry at the Eagledale dock to begin three years of incarceration.

Of this group, most were American citizens, born in the United States. Their only crime was being a Nikkei, a person of Japanese ancestry.
